LOCAL INTEREST VISITS

Home More About Frome 3A Monthly Meetings Groups Links Contact Us

This Group operates on the basis that any member who would like to visit anywhere of interest can propose a visit, checking that it is open on the Friday in question and confirming costs. Details of the next month's visit will be announced at the main monthly meeting at the Assembly Rooms, including a proposed meeting time for the visit, and any Frome Third Age members can go.

Meg Young and Sandy Earner will provide minimal coordination for the group and you should speak to either of them if you wish to propose a visit or have any other queries in relation to the group. Both will normally attend the main monthly meeting and you can speak to them there, or email them on meg@highandlow.plus.com or sandy.earner@gmail.com respectively.

The next visit will be on Friday 7th March. We’re combining with the Photography Group and going to the Bristol Art Gallery and Museum, principally to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition. The competition is organised with several categories, e.g. mammals, birds, reptiles etc. and an overall winner is awarded. For a bit of fun, a voting form will be available for you to decide if you agree with the judges or prefer one of the other pictures in each category. The Photography Group have done this many times before and it's always interesting to compare notes afterwards to see who preferred which pictures.

Entry to the museum is free, but entry to the exhibition costs £6.60 per person (Concessions £6, under 16s free). You can travel by train to Templemead station then bus to the museum, but the most popular option is to drive to Brislington Park and Ride, then use the Park and Ride bus to the harbour and either walk or bus up the hill to the museum.

The Art Gallery has many other interesting galleries to visit if you wish to do so.

The plan is to meet at 11.00am in the museum cafe, which is on the ground floor, (as is the exhibition). Lunches are also available in the cafe.

The February visit was to Lacock, the National Trust property near Corsham. The pictures below were taken during the visit.
