We are a small friendly group visiting places of wildlife interest on the fourth Friday of each month, mainly in Somerset,
Wiltshire and Dorset. Visits usually start at 10 or 10.30, depending on how far away the site is, and we finish each trip
with an optional pub lunch. Last year the group enjoyed some wonderful visits, to Slimbridge in February where we saw an array of waders and other wetland birds; to RSPB Arne in June, where we searched in vain for sight of Dartford Warblers but were rewarded with sightings of other birds including sandwich terns; and East Woodlands in July where we saw lots of butterflies, despite it being a poor year for them. Later in the year we visited the Heal Rewilding project near Witham Friary, seeing an ever-increasing number of birds, butterflies and mammals. Our winter visits mainly involve birdwatching, usually at a wetland, while summer visits give us options for seeing a wider variety of plants and animals. This year our planned programme is as follows: 28th February - Westhay Moor National Nature Reserve 28th March - Dinton Park 25th April - WWT Slimbridge 23rd May - Carymoor Nature Reserve 27th June - Babcary Meadows 25th July - RSPB Winterbourne Downs 22nd August - River Frome local walk 26th September - RSPB Ham Wall 24th October - Stourhead tree walk 28th November - WWT Langford Lakes New members are welcome, especially people willing to drive and take passengers! The group’s joint co-ordinators are Patience Gray (07876 175310) and Wendy Miller-Williams (07725 832986), or email us at f3abirdwatchingandnature@gmail.com. |
