This group visits productions at our two local theatres - The Merlin and The Memorial. Emails will be sent to those who have expressed an interest in the group telling them about future performances. Sheets on which you can indicate your interest in upcoming productions will be available at the monthly meetings. Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash or cheque at the monthly meeting. The Merlin has added numerous 2025 productions to its web site. The ones that I think look interesting are: 3rd to 5th April. Frome Drama Club are putting on Gaslight by Patrick Hamilton. This classic thriller set in 1880s London was first produced in 1935. Jack Manningham is slowly and deliberately driving his wife, Bella, insane. He has almost succeeded when help arrives in the form of a former detective, Rough, who believes Manningham to be a thief and murderer. Sunday 6th April 2025 at 2.00pm. Royal Opera Cinema Season - Turandot The beautiful but icy Princess Turandot will only marry a man who can correctly answer three riddles. Those who fail are brutally beheaded. But when an unknown prince arrives, the balance of power in Turandot’s court is forever shaken, as the mysterious stranger does what no other has been able to. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a list for this at the January meeting and I will be collecting payment at the February meeting. Tuesday 15 April at 7pm. Dr Strangelove After how much we enjoyed the NT Live production of The Importance of being Earnest this is another NT Live screening. Seven-time BAFTA Award-winner Steve Coogan plays four roles in the world premiere stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s comedy masterpiece. This explosively funny satire, about a rogue US General who triggers a nuclear attack, is led by a world-renowned creative team including Emmy Award-winner Armando Iannucci and Olivier Award-winner Sean Foley. Tickets cost £18.00. I will be taking both bookings and payment at the March meeting. Sunday 18th May 2025 at 2.00pm. Royal Opera Cinema Season - Die Walkure On a stormy night, fate brings two strangers together, unleashing a love with the power to end worlds. Meanwhile, in the realm of the gods, an epic battle ensues between their ruler Wotan and his rebellious daughter, Brünnhilde. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a list for this at the March meeting and I will be collecting payment at the April meeting. Saturday 6th September at 7.30pm at the Memorial Theatre The West End Tenors are performing. They are leading men from London’s West End theatres, who combine in a powerhouse of vocal talent. After selling out arenas across Europe, The West End Tenors embark on their first UK Tour, bringing their smash hit show directly to you! The cast of The West End Tenors have starred in musicals such as Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia and Miss Saigon, as well as performing at Windsor Castle for the Royal Family, the BBC Proms and the Eurovision Song Contest. Celebrating the greatest triumphs of Musical Theatre & Film, their spine-tingling vocals are not to be missed, leaving audiences breathless from start to finish. Tickets cost £24.00 including a booking fee. As I imagine that this will be popular I will collect names at the March and April meetings and collect the money at the May meeting. If tickets sell quicker than I anticipate then I may ask for money at the April meeting. I will keep watching both the Merlin and Memorial Theatres websites and may add other productions.
