This group visits productions at our two local theatres - The Merlin and The Memorial. Emails will be sent to those who have expressed an interest in the group telling them about future performances. Sheets on which you can indicate your interest in upcoming productions will be available at the monthly meetings. Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash or cheque at the monthly meeting. The Merlin has added numerous 2025 productions to its web site. The ones that I think look interesting are: Sunday 18th May 2025 at 2.00pm. Royal Opera Cinema Season - Die Walkure On a stormy night, fate brings two strangers together, unleashing a love with the power to end worlds. Meanwhile, in the realm of the gods, an epic battle ensues between their ruler Wotan and his rebellious daughter, Brünnhilde. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a list for this at the March meeting and I will be collecting payment at the April meeting. Saturday 19th July at 2.00pm. Come from Away 7,000 Stranded Passengers. One Small Town. A Remarkable True Story. This show shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives with open hearts. Experience this joyous story and soaring music as spirited locals and global passengers come together to forge friendships that will stay with them forever. The first female American Airlines captain, the quick-thinking town mayor, the mother of a New York firefighter and the eager local news reporter are among the many real characters caught at the start of the moment that changed the course of history and whose stories became a true celebration of hope, humanity and unity. This production is a fundraising event as part of the Merlin’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. I hope that I can get Early Bird tickets for this at £18 otherwise they will be £20. There will be a list for this at the April meeting and I will be collecting money for it at the May meeting. I hope to let you know before Friday if I can get Early Bird tickets. Friday August 29th at 7.00pm. The Illyria Theatre Company will be putting on a production of HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan in the ECOS Amphitheatre (if bad weather the performance will be inside in the Merlin). Gates open at 6.00pm. Please bring chairs, blankets and picnics, but purchase drinks from the bar in the Merlin. The running time is approximately 2 hours, including a 20 minute interval. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a booking form at the main Frome Third Age meeting in May and I will collect the money at the June meeting. Josephine, the captain's daughter, is in love with Ralph, a common sailor, but her father insists that she marries Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty. The lovers are caught as they elope from the ship and Ralph is locked in the ship's dungeons. Can revelations made by Buttercup, the dockside vendor, finally enable everyone to marry their true hearts' loves? Full to the gunwales with sharp dialogue and catchy tunes, this timeless comic opera is performed by a cast of six on a spectacular nautical set using Sullivan's full score. Saturday 6th September at 7.30pm at the Memorial Theatre The West End Tenors are performing. They are leading men from London’s West End theatres, who combine in a powerhouse of vocal talent. After selling out arenas across Europe, The West End Tenors embark on their first UK Tour, bringing their smash hit show directly to you! The cast of The West End Tenors have starred in musicals such as Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia and Miss Saigon, as well as performing at Windsor Castle for the Royal Family, the BBC Proms and the Eurovision Song Contest. Celebrating the greatest triumphs of Musical Theatre & Film, their spine-tingling vocals are not to be missed, leaving audiences breathless from start to finish. Tickets cost £24.00 including a booking fee. As I imagine that this will be popular I will collect names at the March and April meetings and collect the money at the May meeting. If tickets sell quicker than I anticipate then I may ask for money at the April meeting. I will keep watching both the Merlin and Memorial Theatres websites and may add other productions. Thank you all for your support this year. If you have any questions, please email Janet at janethoward2010@yahoo.co.uk. |
