The Merlin Theatre |
The Memorial Theatre |
This group visits productions at our two local theatres - The Merlin and The Memorial. Emails will be sent to those who have expressed an interest in the group telling them about future performances. Sheets on which you can indicate your interest in upcoming productions will be available at the monthly meetings. Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash or cheque at the monthly meeting. The Merlin has started to add 2025 productions to its web site. The ones that I think look interesting are: Thursday 20th February 2025 at 7.00pm. NT Live - The Importance of being Earnest A trivial comedy for serious people, filmed live from the National Theatre. Three-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke is joined by Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education) in this joyful re-imagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy. While assuming the role of a dutiful guardian in the country, Jack lets loose in town under a false identity. Meanwhile, his friend Algy adopts a similar facade. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies, the gentlemen find themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate. Max Webster (Life of Pi) directs this hilarious story of identity, impersonation and romance, filmed live from the National Theatre in London. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a list for this at the November and December meetings and I will be collecting payment at the January meeting. 3rd to 5th April. Frome Drama Club are putting on Gaslight by Patrick Hamilton. This classic thriller set in 1880s London was first produced in 1935. Jack Manningham is slowly and deliberately driving his wife, Bella, insane. He has almost succeeded when help arrives in the form of a former detective, Rough, who believes Manningham to be a thief and murderer. Sunday 6th April 2025 at 2.00pm. Royal Opera Cinema Season - Turandot The beautiful but icy Princess Turandot will only marry a man who can correctly answer three riddles. Those who fail are brutally beheaded. But when an unknown prince arrives, the balance of power in Turandot’s court is forever shaken, as the mysterious stranger does what no other has been able to. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a list for this at the January meeting and I will be collecting payment at the February meeting. Sunday 18th May 2025 at 2.00pm. Royal Opera Cinema Season - Die Walkure On a stormy night, fate brings two strangers together, unleashing a love with the power to end worlds. Meanwhile, in the realm of the gods, an epic battle ensues between their ruler Wotan and his rebellious daughter, Brünnhilde. Tickets cost £18.00. There will be a list for this at the March meeting and I will be collecting payment at the April meeting. I will keep watching both the Merlin and Memorial Theatres websites and may add other productions. Thank you all for your support this year.
